ENVIRONMENT: This site is located on the high
desert plateau east of Ojo Caleinte, NM. It is surrounded by
Carson National Forest with breath-taking 350 degree views. Black
Mesa provides a backdrop to the south and the Sangre de Christo Mountains
rise to the east.
PROGRAM: The
client had recently moved to Ojo Caliente from the Midwest for health
reasons and wanted to create a healthful country residence. The
building program called for the following:
- construction of a new two bedroom and two bath residence
- living room large enough to accommodate a grand piano and firesplace
- efficient kitchen and dining areas
DESIGN: The
Environmentally Integrated Home is the major design element
throughout the house. This is emphasized through the use of
the following design elements:
- Solar and sacred earth Geometries
- Relationship with the area's traditional and sacred building
forms, shapes, materials and colors
- Integration with natural geometric forms and light
