ENVIRONMENT: This
site is located on the Pueblo of Santa Clara’s main compound,
near Espanola, NM. Black Mesa provides a backdrop to the
south and the Sangre de Christo and Jemez Mountains rise to the
west and east.
PROGRAM: This
design solution expands the Library into the existing Administration
area, the existing book drop area and creates a second story addition
with terrace and balcony areas.
DESIGN: Environmental
and Sacred Integration is the major design element throughout the
Library. This is emphasized through the use of the following
design elements:
- Solar and sacred earth Geometries
- Relationship with the area's traditional and sacred building
forms, shapes, materials and colors
- Integration with natural geometric forms and light
