Greywater Treatment and Irrigation Systems

Our office has designed several residences and two visitor center buildings where the building’s greywater has been treated and then used for irrigation. In residential projects, we have implemented “constructed wetlands” designs, with a series of filtration and treatment ponds, aeration and sunlight exposure channels leading to the eventual irrigation of fruit trees. In another residential project, the greywater from the tub, laundry and bathroom lavatory are piped directly outside to water a cottonwood tree. In our two rest area visitor center projects for the NM DOT, we are able to recycle 100% of the facility’s waste water in the growing season through packaged Waste Water Treatment plants which treat and purify the water for eventual irrigation of the site’s native landscaping.
